Gotham Awards
The Gotham Awards are film awards that are given annually by the Independent Feature Project (IFP), to recognize the independent films of each year, since 1991. The ceremony is held every year in New York City, United States .
The Independent Feature Project is an association that is responsible for carrying out programs to support and develop the independent film industry in the United States.

History
The first Gotham Awards ceremony was held in 1991, at the initiative of the Independent Feature Project (IFP) founded in 1979, to honor independent films made mainly in the northeast region of the United States.
In 2004 the scope of the awards was expanded, allowing the inclusion of international films.
The name of the awards "Gotham" comes from the nickname that the American writer Washington Irving gave New York City in 1807 in Salmagundia magazine.
