The story of François Touraine, a young Frenchman, unfolds throughout the 1920s and 1950s. As a child, he met Rachel, who inspired him to become a piano virtuoso. Under the spell of his teacher, François grew up and fell in love, but Rachel, being Jewish, faced times of persecution. Determined to save her, François faced the cruel realities of anti-Semitism, losing everything, including the woman he loved. With his career in decline, he found redemption in Annette, a tenacious and endearing young woman, obsessed with keeping the memory of all the "Rachels" alive.
