Saturn Awards
The Saturn Awards are film and television awards, awarded annually by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films of the United States, since 1972, with the aim of recognizing the best films and filmmakers of cinema and television in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, horror.
History
The Saturn Awards were created by the American writer and director Donald A. Reed, to recognize films within the science fiction and fantasy genres, which at that time were not taken into account in the film awards of that time. Originally, the prize awarded was a certificate called the “Golden Scroll”.
The first ceremony was held on May 18, 1973, awarding only films in the science fiction and fantasy genres.
In the 1980s, the panorama expanded and television productions began to be recognized. In the 90s, awards began to be made for movies released on DVD and since 2018 for movies and series on Streaming.
Today, while the Saturn Awards still focus primarily on movies and television in the science fiction, fantasy, and horror categories, productions in other dramatic genres have been recognized as well.
