Pilgrimage (2017)

In March 1537, Fernão Mendes Pinto escaped the misery and confines of his life and sailed to India seeking fame and fortune. This adventure film is about the trials and triumphs of an adventurer who was also a writer, traveller, penitent, envoy, soldier and slave. He was everything and everywhere and “by the grace of God” returned to Portugal safely and left an amazing account of his travels. My film is a depiction of acutely observed, intensified, exaggerated and fascinating episodes where moment of despair are outweighed by the splendour of discovering other lands and other people.
