Jarhead (2005)

Based on former Marine Anthony Swofford's best-selling 2003 book about his pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and about his experiences fighting in Kuwait. Marine Anthony 'Swoff' Swofford (Gyllenhaal) is serving in pre-Desert Storm Middle East, under Sgt Sykes (Foxx) and his friend and mentor Troy (Sarsgaard). Fighting an enemy he can't see in a country he doesn't understand, carrying 100 lb rucksacks and a sniper rifle through unprotected desert, their best asset is their sense of humour.
