Michael Newman (Sandler), a workaholic architect bent on forging ahead, buys a remote control appearing not only to control his TV and stereo, but almost all of his life. Michael is soon hooked on the rush of power that literally allows him to have his cake and eat it. But before he knows what's happened, it's the remote control that's programming him, more than the other way round. Panicking, Michael can't get the thing to stop deciding which events in his life he'll experience and which not. Only then does he start to appreciate and fully accept his life: the good, the bad and the ugly.
