Absorbing Spanish drama concerns Yerma, a woman despondent over her inability to get pregnant. After discussing her problem with a friend, Yerma becomes convinced that her husband is the reason that she cannot conceive. Her increasing desperation tempts her to seduce the village shepherd. But when she is unable to go through with the tryst, Yerma swiftly descends into madness.
