Produced in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, this political drama begins in 1945 and chronicles the Chinese Civil War, which eventually led to the Kuomintang’s retreat onto the island of Taiwan, as well as the Communist Party’s establishment of the new country in 1949.
Almost all notable A-list mainland Chinese stars are taking (at least a cameo) part in the movie; many without paid just to have their face in the symbolic film. Some of them are: Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Zhang Ziyi, Chow Yun Fat, John Woo, Donnie Yen, Andy Lau, Tony Leung, Zhao Wei, Chen Kaige, Leon Lai, Feng Xiaogang amongst many others.
