The clerk at the Boston liquor store who says, "There you go, tough guy," while handing the package to Paul (Paul Giamatti) is not an actor, but the actual owner of the store.
The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, one year after it was sold for $30 million during a screening for buyers at the previous year's festival.
The entire film was shot on real locations; no sets or sound effects were used.
Many of the scenes were filmed at Fairhaven High School in Fairhaven (Massachusetts) in February 2022 during the February school holidays. A snowstorm hit the area at that time, which relieved technicians of snow concerns and provided a true Christmas feel.
