History of the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG)
The SAG Award was first awarded on February 25, 1995 in Studio 12 at Universal Studios. Tonight the new “The Actor” Guild award statuette was unveiled for the first time, as well as the first award categories.
The Figurine
The SAG awards trophy is in the form of a nude male figure holding a comedy mask and a tragedy mask, called "The Actor." The statuette was made by the artist Joaquín Quintero, is made of bronze, weighs 5.4 kg and is 16 inches (41 cm) tall.
Nominations and Awards
Nominations for the awards are made by two Commissions, one for film and the other for Television. For each commission, 2,100 members are randomly selected each year, taking into account the entire membership (165,000 members), to vote for the nominees and winners.
