In 1977, during Brazil's military dictatorship, Marcelo, a teacher fleeing a turbulent past, returns on the run to the city of Recife, where he hopes to build a new life and reunite with his son. But he soon realizes that the city is far from being the refuge he seeks, that government forces are after him and death threats are hanging over his head.
