By tying thousands of balloon to his home, 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Right after lifting off, however, he learns he isn’t alone on his journey, since Russell, a wilderness explorer 70 years his junior, has inadvertently become a stowaway on the trip.
The first 10 minutes of this animation are nothing short of breathtaking perfection. The remaining 80 minutes evolve into a beautiful, thoughtful, and uplifting adventure, resulting in a film that is about as close to perfect as an animated feature can get. It masterfully balances a wide range of emotions—delivering genuine humor and profound sadness exactly when needed—all anchored by a cast of flawless characters.
