The Captive (2025)

In 1575, a 28-year-old Miguel de Cervantes, returning to Spain after being wounded in naval combat, is captured by Algerian corsairs off the coast of Catalonia. He faces five years of harsh captivity in Algiers, marked by multiple escape attempts. Knowing a grim fate awaits him if his ransom isn't quickly paid, Miguel finds an unexpected solace and purpose in his storytelling. His captivating narratives not only rekindle hope among his fellow prisoners but also pique the interest of Hassan, the enigmatic and feared Bajah of Algiers, leading to a peculiar connection between them.
