The 31st edition of the Cannes Film Festival was held for 14 days, from 16 to May 30, 1978 in the city of Cannes in France, awarding the best films from a large part of the world. The president of the jury for the main competition was Alan J. Pakula. The movie A Hunting Accident , opened the festival.
